Has anyone used maternity acupressure to help induce labor? I'd like to hear your experience. Thanks!?
My husband is an active duty marine and set to deploy a week before my due date. So I would like to know if this worked for anyone before investing my money.
P.S. I know your not supposed to try to induce your labor early. However; I will be 39 weeks. 36 weeks is considered full term, so please save your nasty comments to yourself. Thank you.
I hope you’ve been enjoying my posts lately. I thought I might do something different today and rustle up a few bits of info from around the WWW. These are some of the news items and blog posts that have been popular over the last few weeks. Leave me your thoughts.

Why would anyone want to try self inducing labor?… Let me give you a few reasons!
You feel tired, sluggish, your back hurts and your legs ache. You have cramping in your ankles, you feel enormous! You struggle to get comfy, it’s hard to sit or stand without help and it’s even harder to get to sleep… (and that’s just a few symptoms!)
When you get to around 37 weeks pregnant, you may experience just a few of the symptoms mentioned above. When you start to count the days after 37 weeks, and you just keep counting and counting, and still no baby – The symptoms may start to multiply. It’s not easy to carry a full term baby in your belly for longer than you have too. It all takes it’s toll on poor old Mom!
When you reach the 40 week milestone, and your baby still hasn’t decided to make an appearance you may start to feel frustrated and moody. After all, you’ve carried him for the full 9 months, why won’t he come out!
Your midwife or consultant won’t normally want to induce you just yet. They may tell you to wait another week or so. “really!” you scream!
OK let’s look at some alternative methods.
Self inducing labor – Some natural idea’s
- Wanna have sex?! Well at 40 plus weeks that may be the last thing on your mind, but it is said to help labor start.
- Go for a walk, you’re not doing a marathon, just a nice steady walk around the park maybe.
- Eat some really spicy food, This has been known to start labor (it has also been known to cause heartburn and diarrhoea) So think long and hard before ordering a vindaloo!
- Nipple stimulation, if you decide to try this, do read up on it carefully first. The whole nipple and areola needs massaging and it can cause intense labor and very strong contractions.
Self inducing labor – Acupressure
Acupressure has been around for many years, and is used for a variety of reasons. Not until recently has the western world started to use it for self inducing labor. There are certain points on your body that when pressure is applied in an instructed manner, can do just that. It can induce labor safely and easily , (no diarrhoea like with spicy food or castor oil!)
Not only does acupressure allow you to induce labor, it can also be used on different pressure points around the body to help ease labor pain (unlike nipple stimulation) and help to achieve an easier and shorter birth. Acupressure is starting be recognised for its benefits by midwives and doula’s.
Acupressure certainly seems to give you a win win situation. So if you don’t fancy waiting for your midwife to advise an induction, join me, Julie and take a closer look at Acupressure for self inducing labor.
