Natural Therapies – Acupressure
Acupressure has been around for years, even older than acupuncture. It started in China and dates back over 2,000 years. It has been used not only to heal many health problems naturally, but it has also been effective in preventing problems, especially those associated with aging.
Chinese medical practitioners, acupuncturists, and massage therapists all include acupressure into their treatments. It is an effective way to help your body regain balance, an important aspect of homeostasis the body and always looking for, especially with the fast-paced, high pressured, and stressful lives we all lead.
While acupuncture uses needles, acupressure is completely non-invasive and uses the human hand and its parts, like fingers, thumbs, and knuckles to press key points on the skin. I should point out though, that both procedures are relatively painless. The needles used in acupuncture are so thin, they’re hardly felt at all. Acupuncture and acupressure recognize the same key points, but one stimulates with needles and the other uses the hand or some other blunt object.
You can also use pressure bands, when constant and continuous pressure is needed, such as with relief from nausea. Children who might be afraid of acupuncture needles can use acupressure for treatment. Adults often use acupressure to relieve them of stress, with amazing results. Acupressure can be learned in a short time, and can be used on yourself and your family members. Acupuncture, on the other hand, requires many years of specialized education and experience.
Chinese medicine has identified 14 channels, called meridians, which are used to transport the movement of chi or qi, (both pronounced ‘chee’, which is the ‘life energy’) inside our body. By applying pressure to key points along each meridian, acupressure helps to improve circulation, reduce tension, balance the body, increase endorphins, and strengthen resistance to illness. It can also be used to treat everyday pains such as headache, stress and eye strain.
A study done at Dankook University in Korea showed acupressure to be effective in reducing labor pains, and length of labor. It has also been proven to effectively induce labor, which is why only someone experienced in acupressure can apply it on pregnant women.

In Taiwan, research showed acupressure to be more effective in decreasing lower back pain than traditional physical therapies, and results lasting longer after treatment. One recent study shows that acupressure applied to the P6 (located in the wrist) had significant results in relieving acid reflux.
Acupressure is not intended to make you more tolerable to pain. It shouldn’t hurt in the first place. If pressure is applied and there is pain, stop the pressure immediately. There can be slight numbness from acupressure, but never pain.
There is no logic why western medicine is reluctant to embrace the techniques of other cultures, even though they have been proven to be effective for centuries. Perhaps modern day doctors fear their services might no longer be needed if everyone starts using natural therapies and remedies for their health related problems.
We are faced with the possibility of choosing out of many natural ways to induce labor. Although many techniques are possible, you have to understand that only some of them will work properly. We have to only consider the methods that are working properly so that we can only choose what might work for us.
The most effective out of the natural ways to induce labor is the one that you might not consider: sex. Semen contains prostaglandins naturally and it can start labor when it reaches the cervix. Unfortunately many of the women that want to induce labor will not want sex because of a low sex drive. The good news is that there are alternatives like the use of hot towels in order to achieve similar effects. We can also aim towards inducing orgasm as the contractions it causes can jump start labor.
Swinging and bumping is another common technique you can use. Through such a technique the baby will be moved and will be positioned in a way that stimulates giving birth. We have many natural ways to induce labor but this one is really easy. You should only go for light hikes or use a park swing. Similar results can be achieved through bumpy road driving. You should be aware of the fact that walking is also recommended by your doctor throughout pregnancy. Contractions might start when you exercise gently with the use of stationary bikes.
The only thing that you need to watch out for is overdoing it. Whenever your body tells you to stop that is what you have to do. Overdoing it will simply cause problems that you should not have to deal with.
Herbs and oils also provide alternatives that some women might consider. Unfortunately using them also brings in risks of side effects. If you want to use such a technique, always stay under medical supervising. We recommend that you also take into account acupressure as a natural way to induce labor. There are numerous positive benefits that should not be avoided or taken lightly. This is one natural technique you will enjoy using and should work in your case.
