Are the natural ways to induce labor really safe? Some are – So let’s have a look and see if we can get this baby moving!

A lot of mums know how you feel! You get to 40 weeks… Your due date, and you wait with fingers crossed and baited breath, and still nothing.

An appointment with your midwife reveals no real activity, your baby is happy inside, and has no intention of coming out, whether you like it or not!

Most midwives won’t recommend induction until 42 weeks, but that really doesn’t help you at all. And when you are ready for medical intervention, it’s really not that pretty! You could have membrane sweep, where your midwife will sweep her finger over your cervix. Your midwife or consultant may break your waters (out comes the huge crochet hook) This method can cause your labor to be particularly painful. You may be given a drip or a pessary to try and stimulate labor.

I’m sure you would much rather get labor started yourself!

You feel bulky, slow and sluggish. You have a constant need to pee, you can’t get comfy to get a decent nights sleep. Even walking down the stairs in the morning is about as much as you can manage for the whole day! Above all you just want your baby out! Not that you haven’t enjoyed the last 9 months. But your body is exactly that… Yours! And after sharing it for 40 weeks, you need a rest.

So what can you try to get things moving, what natural ways are there of self inducing labor?

Some are highly recommended, others are murky waters that not many women will really want to try. One method is having rave results (We’ll save that one till last!) And looking at the other side of the coin, one method in particular you would have to be mad to try (never mind desperate) We’ll get to that one later.

Let’s start with some easy ones:

Self inducing labour

Walking, and no – you are not competing in the marathon. Just a nice steady walk.

Spicy food. As hot as you can manage, but watch out for heartburn and diarrhoea after this one!

Sex… Oh yes ladies! This may be the last thing that you fancy, but the Oxytocin released from having sex can help to contract your uterus. Prostaglandins found in sperm can also help by softening the cervix ready for labor.

I think most women may have already heard of the above tips, but here are some you may not have heard of. You should also check with your midwife before trying these next methods.

Nipple stimulation, You have to simulate the suckling motion of a baby. This has to be carried out for quite a while, not a quick 5 minute fix! This method can cause very strong contractions and should be used with care.

Red raspberry leaf tea. This is believed to stimulate the uterus, and should not be used until the last 3 months of pregnancy.

Black Cohosh, a herb believed to kick start labor. Although no concrete evidence that this works. Do check with your medical practitioner first.

Homoeopathy, you should contact a qualified specialist if you decide to try this method.

So you have now armed yourself with a few things to try. The one that you should definitely avoid is…

Castor oil – Although some women will swear that this will induce labor, it will more than likely make you vomit and cause a bad case of diarrhoea. This in turn can cause dehydration – A very bad thing to happen if you are pregnant. Basic advice, give this one a miss!

Here’s an up & coming ‘star’ method of self inducing labor

Women are starting to rave about this method of natural labor induction. Visit me: Julie at – http://www.new-baby-and-beyond.com/acupressure-to-induce-labor.html

Does eating curry work to induce labor?

I am 36w5d and for the past 3 days I have been having cramping like I am going to start my period and a little back pain. The cramping isnt very painful its more uncomfortable than anything but last night it was painful for about an hour and this morning also. I walked today for about a mile and im still just having the period cramping. This is my 2nd baby but I was induced with my 1st at 37w because of my BP so I didnt really go through the whole labor thing. We have also been trying sex to get things moving along. My fiancee just made homemade steak curry that is just a little spicy not too much. Will this help things move along? I just want my little guy to make up his mind on if hes comming or not and if he wants to come I just want to help him out a little… What should I do? I cant keep feeling like this.

If you’re reaching the end of your pregnancy, there’s a very good chance that other women have already shared their natural labor induction techniques with you. It seems that every mom has her own take on what can send your body into labor and you into the delivery room. It’s very tempting to want to try any and all suggested approaches when you are already full term and your newborn has yet to make a move towards delivery. If you’re tired of being pregnant and the doctor has told you that it’s just a matter of waiting for the baby to decide when it’s time, there’s a few things you can do to encourage your body to jump into labor.

One of the best natural labor induction techniques is exercise. The problem with this is that it’s hard enough to move from a sitting position to a standing position when you’re nine months pregnant, let alone trying to work out. Strenuous activity is certainly not suggested, but a brisk walk is always a good idea. If you have access to an indoor walking track, now is the time to utilize it. Be certain that you are well hydrated and that you’ve got your cell phone nearby just in case you do go into labor. If you’re walking outside, take along a walking buddy, especially if the area you are walking in isn’t densely populated. You don’t want to risk anything happening to you or the baby if you can’t reach someone once you start feeling contractions.

Sleep and relaxation also ironically are two natural labor induction techniques that work wonders. Far from the idea of taking a brisk walk, relaxing can do wonders to send you into the delivery room too. The main reason this works so well is that many pregnant women get very nervous as their due date approaches. This tension can actually play havoc with the labor process. Your body needs to be relaxing if you want your labor to begin and progress. Do something that will completely take your mind off of the baby for a time. Great ideas are to go shopping with some friends or take in a movie with your partner. You also want to sleep whenever you feel tired. Once the baby arrives, sleep takes a definite back seat to the demands of your newborn.

When a woman nears or passes her due date, each and every minute feels like an eternity. Being 9 months pregnant is uncomfortable and cumbersome. Your emotions are running high and all you really want is to hold your new baby in your arms. If you’re ready to go into labor, there is a safe and simple way to start your own labor.

Maternity acupressure is an experience a couple can share together. It can help jumpstart your labor so you are in the delivery room in the next 36 hours. If you’re growing impatient to be a new mom to your little one, try this technique today. It’s guaranteed to work.

As your pregnancy comes to an end, you have probably already prepared quite a bit for the arrival of your baby. You may have furnished a nursery, picked out the perfect diaper bag, and washed and folded a lot of tiny clothes. Most mothers-to-be also spend time preparing for labor and delivery. You have probably taken various classes and made some decisions about how you would like labor to go. You may even have a neatly typed birth plan waiting in your hospital bag. Now, as long as everything goes according to the plan….

The truth is, most labors contain a few surprises. It is certainly helpful to think about your wishes for your labor, but it is also important to be flexible in case things go differently than you had expected. Additionally, there are some basic exercises and techniques that you can use to prepare yourself physically for your birth event which will make it more likely that your labor will proceed smoothly and according to your plan.

You probably learned about the importance of good nutrition during pregnancy from your birth class instructor. This is foundational for giving your baby a good start in life and for giving you the health and energy you will need for labor and delivery. Also, you may have been given various exercises to perform that will stretch and strengthen the muscles you will be using during labor. Don’t neglect these! Doing your kegels, sitting cross-legged, and squatting all will help to tone the muscles that will be most used during labor.

If you are interested in attaining the smoothest delivery possible, it is helpful to know some techniques for encouraging your body and your baby to be ready for labor. One fascinating and effective way of preparing for labor and delivery is by using the techniques of maternity acupressure. The term is reminiscent of the practice of acupuncture, and they are indeed related. However, acupressure works by applying pressure instead. Stimulating certain points on your body have certain effects within your body; this is especially true for the pregnant woman.

Many maternity acupressure points relate to inducing labor, but there are some things you can think about ahead of time. For example, as your due date approaches, your practitioner may be able to tell you whether baby’s back is to your front (the optimal anterior position) or if his back is toward your back (also known as posterior). The latter may result in a prolonged labor and dilation period or painful “back labor.” If this is the case with your baby, once you have reached 36 weeks, you may begin to use an acupressure point on your toe to turn the baby. If your due date has passed, there are a couple of other points you can try that are also associated with inducing labor and strengthening contractions.

Using acupressure to self-induce labor at home would be the ultimate form of preparation. (Obviously this is not something you should attempt before your due date or without your practitioner’s knowledge and approval.) With the help of an instruction booklet, you or a support person can stimulate various acupressure points that will help to ripen the cervix, encourage the baby to descend, and lead to dilation and contractions. And once labor is started naturally and proceeding smoothly, acupressure can continue to aid you in providing pain relief. Get ready — your baby will be here before you know it!

Are you overdue and tired? You can encourage your labor to start naturally at home and avoid medical induction. Labor acupressure is a simple method that has proven to be effective and safe for the mother and the baby. The most effective acupressure points that naturally induce labor, give labor pain relief and help in any stage you might get stuck in during your labor, are revealed in a new labor acupressure guide “Easier, Shorter and Safer Birth” by Lena Leino.
Does evening primrose tablets work 2 induce labor?

im booked 2 b induced in a little under a week.im 6cm dialted and cervix is very soft n stretchy but 4 some reason i have stalled and labor wont move again.ob suggested trying evening primrose tablets out adn see if it would work.b4 i buy them are there any ill affects that can happen, can they harm the baby and do they work on someone as ripe as what my cervix is?how do u take them and how many do u take?

By the time you are 37 weeks pregnant, most doctors will consider you to be full-term and will allow labor to progress if it starts. However, some women will go well past the typical 40 weeks and will start to look for ways to help their labor along. If you are one of these women that would like to find ways to induce labor at home, then here are three of the most common and effective techniques that women have used.

Walking

This will typically help the baby to further descend into the pelvis and hopefully apply pressure to the cervix. The added pressure will often times help the cervix thin and dilate therefore giving you a jump start on the whole labor process. If nothing else, you get exercise, which will help you feel better physically and mentally.

There is also a variation, which I like to call curb-stepping. I’ve successfully used this method twice, the last time going into labor within hours. Stand next to a curb with the right foot closest to the curb and the left foot farthest from the curb. Step up on the curb with the right foot and continue walking with your left foot down on the street. You should go up and down with each step if you do it properly. I believe it’s the combination of walking and jostling that helps this technique to work.

Nipple Stimulation

Any stimulation to the nipples should cause contractions by nature’s own design. You can either manually rub your nipples or use a breast pump, for about 5 – 15 minutes per side. Hopefully the increase in contractions will become regular and lead you into actual labor. Most women will do this every couple of hours until they are successful.

Sex

Although having sexual relations at this point can be uncomfortable or even undesirable, semen has a natural chemical in it called a prostaglandin that helps to thin the cervix. A thinned cervix will usually start to dilate and therefore lead to labor. That is why often times when I woman has a threat of preterm labor she will be put on pelvic rest – to avoid the risk of semen affecting her cervix.

If you find yourself not making any progress on your own and your baby is term, you can start to use some of these methods to induce labor at home on your own. Each method is simple and safe and worth a shot to try to avoid a medical induction in the hospital.

I think they're a bunch of random facts being pulled. I'm sure there are a lot of instances where this has happened, but it doesn't change the fact that there is no God, and that the bible was most likely written by a bunch of Leaders …

Natural Ways To Induce Labor

Use Acupressure to induce labor? Most people think of powerful and toxic drugs when it comes to being induced. Hence, no one ever wants to induce labor. But the best and most pleasant way is to employ acupressure to induce labor.

Acupressure during pregnancy?

I was looking into doing acupressure, but have heard that it can be used to help induce labor. I am not ready to be in labor yet? I am wondering if it is safe to do before forty weeks or if it could cause preterm labor? Thank You.

Hope you enjoy the read as much as I did and please if you have something to say, use the comments form below to let everyone know your thoughts.

Have a great day!

Once you have a newborn you know that they like to live by their own schedule. The same may be true before your new son or daughter arrives. Although medicine has reached a point where you can get a very close approximation of when your new baby is set to arrive, the baby is still the one who seems to appear when he or she is good and ready. If you’re already full-term or overdue and the baby seems to have taken up permanent residence in your womb, it’s a little exasperating. Waiting to go into labor can feel endless, and if your doctor has said that your baby is full-term and can be delivered at any moment, you may be looking for natural ways of inducing labor at home. There are actually a few, safe, simple things you can do to give your body a push towards the delivery room.

One of the most natural ways of inducing labor at home is walking. It’s actually very common to see pregnant women pacing the halls in a hospital delivery ward. That’s because once a woman is in labor, medical personnel will often encourage her to walk as a way to help speed up the labor process. The same is true of jumpstarting your labor. If you have access to an indoor walking track, that’s a great choice, although if the weather is cooperative, walking in the fresh air is wonderful too. Take along a walking buddy just in case you do happen to start serious contractions quickly. Be mindful of how much you push yourself though. You want to ensure you have enough energy left to get you through the delivery.

Not enough can be said about how important it is to relax if you want to speed along the birth of your child. Being tense won’t help start the labor process at all. In fact, one of the best ways of inducing labor at home is by meditating. If you are unsure how to meditate, it’s really as simple as finding a quiet spot and letting your mind go blank. Try not to think of the excitement or apprehension of becoming a mom. Just let your body completely relax. You can also take time to do any activities that you find relaxing like going to the movies, or reading a book. Whatever you can do to take your mind off of the delivery will certainly help.

How much castor oil should you take to induce labor?

I am full term with gestational diabetes and am facing a medical induction. I would really rather start my labor at home rather than in the hospital and have heard many things about castor oil and its uses to induce labor. I am aware of the risks, which for the most part are the same as any hospital induction, and am also aware that it can cause diarrhea. I would just like to know how much you should take and if anyone has any suggestions on recipes? Also, if anyone knows how many centimeters you should be dilated to help guarantee it will start things up that would be great. I am currently 3. Thanks so much and I look forward to hearing your responses!
